Prior to the rise of chain "super-drugstores" the apothecary, or pharmacy drugstore, was a symbol of Main Street America. A few privately owned apothecaries can still be found in some historic downtown areas.
Collectors of apothecary artifacts and memorabilia seek LUG or "Label Under Glass" bottles, mortar and pestles, measuring glasses and cups, show globes, and scales.
Fun Fact: Prior to the early 1900s, in most states a college degree was not requisite to be licensed as a pharmacist.

Stuart's Musings
Civil War Memorabilia
The collecting of Civil War memorabilia is a popular field of contemporary militaria collecting. The taking of souvenirs from the Civil War (or any conflict, even current day) is de rigueur.
One of the largest sources of Civil War relics came from the U.S. government. For example, after Appomattox, the U.S. Government possessed "close to 1.2 million unissued muskets." In addition, federal armies seized "approximately 1.3 million small arms from Confederate sources." The government exercised its authority to sell war surplus based on two Congressional Acts passed in 1825 and 1868, respectively, that allowed Washington to sell arms so long as they were officially deemed "damaged," "unsuitable," and/or "unserviceable."
Much of the "war surplus" sold by the government was eventually acquired by large, commercial retail firms, such as, Schuyler, Hartley, and Graham and the White Brothers (both in New York) and W. Stokes Kirk (Philadelphia). The Montgomery Ward & Company also bought wholesale and re-sold military items.
Caveat emptor: Reproductions of Civil War pieces are quite old, some date back to the late 1800s. Items such as flags and belt buckles were reproduced for veteran's reunions or as historical curios.
