Tasha Tudor
Tasha Tudor is one of America’s best-known and beloved illustrators. She published her first work, Pumpkin Moonshine, in 1938 and has been prolific ever since, having illustrated nearly one hundred books. Her most recent work, The Corgiville Christmas, was released in 2003.
Born as Starling Burgess on August 28, 1915 in Boston, Tudor’s father preferred the name Natasha (from Tolstoy’s War and Peace) and called her Tasha for short.
As a young child, Tudor was exposed to the illustrations of Walter Crane, Randolph Caldecott, and Beatrix Potter.
She received praise and many awards for her soft watercolor and ink illustrations. Mother Goose was named a Caldecott Honor book in 1945, as was 1 Is One in 1957.
