Amberina refers to two-toned glassware featuring an amber color in the lower portion of the glass that merges into a ruby-red hue in the upper portion.
Patented in 1883 by Joseph Locke, amberina was produced for the New England Glass Company and its successor, the Libbey Glass Company, until about 1900.
Libbey also marketed a color known as rose amber. Glass shaded from blue to amber is called Blue Amberina or Bluerina. Designs include quilted diamond, swirled, inverted thumbprint, and ribbed.

Steiff
Margarete Steiff was born in 1847 in Giengen, Germany. At age two, Margarete contracted polio. Although confined to a wheelchair, she attended school like other children, partaking in needlework and sewing classes. Margarete was so competent and skilled at her craft, she began teaching others. Her wages enabled her to purchase a sewing machine, one of the first machines to arrive in Giengen. By 1879, she had her own dressmaking business and quickly became a success.
Steiff found a pattern for a toy elephant and began producing these as gifts for her family. Before long, other animal toys were made. Margarete decided to sell soft-filled bears for children. Her nephew, Richard, helped with the design and production of the company's stuffed toy animals.
